VISITING SCHOLAR PROGRAM

The Division of Pathology of UNIMIB offers the opportunity of visiting periods for international scholars. Strong points of the Program are  a complex case mix , dedicated sub-specialities expertises, a strong collaboration with the  interventional radiology Unit.

Hematopathology, nephropathology, thyroid pathology, molecular lung pathology and immunohistochemistry multiplexing represent the main topic of our scholarship program.

Hematopathology

Analysis of histological and cytological samples of pediatric and adult hematopathology cases with integration of the cytofluorimetric and molecular data

Nephropathology

National reference center for renal medical pathology on native kidney with high expertise on the three study modalities (light microscopy, immunofluorescence and electron microscopy) and remote access to the archive of virtual slides through the Spectrum platform

Thyroid pathology

Outpatient needle aspiration of thyroid nodules and study of cyto/histological specimens with research activity centered on the application of new generation proteomic techniques on FNA samples

Molecular lung pathology

The collaboration with the Genetics and Oncology Units leads to the integration of the cyto/histological data with the genetics informations obtained from the tissue. This allows the selection of  a tailored therapy, monitoring the patient with lung cancer and representing a stimulating field of research.

Immunohistochemistry Multiplexing

Immunohistochemistry multiplexing allows the single-cell analysis employing different antibodies, characterizing the composition of the tissue in different pathologic conditions. Among the possible applications, our center  investigated the role of this technique in hematopathology, neoplastic and non-neoplastic lung and renal pathology, actively contributing to improve the technical aspects of the method.
